Ananda College vs Trinity College – U19 Div 1

Ananda College registered a close first innings win over the fancied Trinity College in their 'Singer' under 19 division 1 match conluded at Ananda Mawatha on tuesday.

Trinity College batting 1st posted a formidable 263 runs in their 1st innings. Trinity's innings was revolved around half centuries of Arjuna Jayasinghe and Kaveen Hiniduma. Both batsman made 66 and 71 respectively. Sammu Ashan took 4 wickets while Isuru Gunasekara took 3 wickets. Ananda in their reply got to their target with help from Sammu Ashan's half century and 40's made by Nisal Fransisco and Pasindu Isira. Charith Sudaraka was the top wicket taking with 4 wickets while Lahiru Kumara and Raveen Sayer picked 2 wickets each.

Trinity College in their 2nd innings posted a commanding 200/2 at close of play. Arjuna Jayasinghe scored his 2nd half century while Nushan Weerasinghe also made 95.

Nalanda retain Warnapura Trophy

Thushan Jayasuriya A five wicket haul by Nalandian Malinga Amarasinghe (five for 58) helped his school to gain a first innings win over Dharmaraja College, Kandy in their Singer under 19 inter school cricket match for the Bandula Warnapura Trophy which concluded at Campbell Place yesterday. By virtue of this first innings win,the Nalandians retain the trophy. The Rajans replying to the Nalanda first innings total of 239 could make only 201 runs despite a fine knock of 72 by Rameesh Ranasinghe with Malinga Amarasinghe being the key bowler for the homesters by taking 5 for 58.

Nalanda : 239 in 86.4 overs and 112 / 6 in 41 overs(Woshantha Silva 25, Senura Amarasinghe 23, Wenuka Galahitiyawa 2/22, Ruchira Pupulewatte 2/14) Dharmaraja (33/1 overnight) : 201 in 65.5 overs (Rameesh Ranasinghe 72, Deneth Lanka 36, Malinga Amarasinghe 5/58)

Richmond in strong position

Richmond College Galle held the upper hand over St.Joseph's College Colombo in their Singer under 19 match which began at Darley Road yesterday. The Joes taking first lease of the wicket, made a modest 201 with Aravinda Akurugoda being the top scorers with 51 while Pathum Madusanka made a well compiled 44.Richmond off spinner Waruna Deshapriya bowled well to take 6 for 63. Richmond in reply, made 134 for 3 with the experienced Sithara Gimhana making 54 while Wanindu Hasaranga remain unbeaten on 29.

St.Anthony's College Katugastota helped by two fine half centuries by Nimesha Gunasinghe (60) and Dilan Bandara (55) made an impressive 251 runs in their Singer under 19 cricket match which began at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday.D.S.Senanayake College in reply, were 37 for no loss at the end of the first day's play.

St.Anthony's Katugastota : 251 in 85 overs (Nimesha Gunasinghe 60, Dilan Bandara 55, Pulasthi Bandara 29, Mohomed Aflar 24, Buwaneka Wijethunge 20, Torin Pitigala 3/43, Osura Bulathsinhala 2/55) D.S.Senanayake: 37 for no loss in 8 overs.

Thomians hit back

Bowlers called the tune on the first day of the Singer under 19 cricket match between S.Thomas' College Mount Lavinia and St.Peter's College Colombo which began at Mount Lavinia yesterday. The Thomians taking the first lease of the wicket were bundled out for 130 with the spin duo of off spinner Thanusha Weerakoon(4 for 41) and left arm leg spinner Sahan Nanayakkara (3 for 9) doing the damage. But the Thomians hit back to have the Peterites tottering at 138 for nine despite a knock of 50 by Dineth Thimodya. The damage was done by leg spinner Tharindu Ratnayake (4 for 26) and off spinner Sachitha Jayatilleke (3 for 7) .

School Cricket: Josephians retain Gilmour Jayasuriya Trophy

Fine knocks by Pathum Madusanka (107) and skipper Dylan Fernandopulle(90) helped St.Joseph's College Colombo retain the 110th Gilmour Jayasuriya Trophy encounter against S.Thomas' College Mount Lavinia which ended in a draw at Mount Lavinia yesterday (Jan.24th). Josephian's amassed a huge 265 runs(declared) for the loss of nine wickets with the Madusanka and Fernandopulle duo involved in a fruitful partnership of 142 runs for the third wicket.Ravindu Tillekeratne captured four wickets for 67.

The homesters in reply were 179 for 8 declared with Nipuna Gamage(45) and Ravindu Tillekeratne(47) top scoring for Thomians. In the Josephian second innings Duran de Alwis(24) and Pathum Madusanka(35 not out) excelled with the bat.

Middle order help Trinity recover

Trinity was in a spot of bother at 135-5, but thanks to the efforts of the middle order, ended as convincing 269 in their match against Mahanama at Asgiriya. Skipper Ron Chandragupta and S. Sanojith contributed a stand of 50 for the sixth wicket to set off the recovery. Earlier, Madhawa Munaweera made 62 in 105 balls, with the aid of seven fours. Charith Sudaraka continued his good form by striking an unbeaten 28. Off spinner W. G. Sajeewa was the pick of the bowlers, claiming six for eighty nine in 24 overs. The Mahanama lads have replied quite impressively by making 100-3. If they could gather another 70 runs, they should be able to draw this game. Kaushalya and Pieris who made 23 not out and 28 respectively helped their team to this challenging reply. New comer S. Amerasinghe has picked up 2-4.

Tiran and Malith prop up Royal

Tiran Dhanapala cracked an unbeaten 92 with nine boundaries and two sixes and built up a partnership of 102 runs for the ninth wicket with Malith Kariyawasam (21 not out) to put Royal College Colombo in command in their inter schools under 19 match against St.John's College, Jaffna commenced at Jaffna yesterday.
