On September 21, the date of CETA's provisional application, 98% of Canadian and EU tariff lines will become immediately duty free, creating new opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic. Ukraine offers numerous opportunities for Canadian businesses and investors in areas such as aerospace, defence and security, education, agriculture and processed foods, fish and seafood, and oil and gas.

Quote: “Canada is a trading nation, and Canadians know that our prosperity is linked to our connections with the global economy. The Greater Toronto Area is a region full of success stories about companies of all sizes and their ability to tap into the potential of exporting. Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific provide new opportunities to expand our trade relationships and benefit Canadian workers and their families.”

– François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of International Trade

International Trade Minister to visit Toronto to highlight benefits of trade diversification and inclusiveness for Canada’s prosperity

The Government of Canada is committed to creating jobs, growing the economy and strengthening the middle class. From the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), to the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement, to Canada’s substantial efforts to bolster trade with the Asia-Pacific region, our government will continue to diversify our markets and provide greater access for Canadian businesses looking to grow and expand beyond our border.

From August 8 to 10, 2017, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of International Trade, will travel to Toronto to discuss commercial opportunities that Canada’s progressive trade agenda presents to Canadian companies of all sizes, especially in the context of CETA’s provisional application on September 21. Minister Champagne will also engage with business representatives, stakeholders and some of Toronto’s diverse communities that are vital to Canada’s success and prosperity on a range of issues, including our close and growing ties with India and the Asia-Pacific and Latin American regions, and the best ways for Canadian companies to further seize these opportunities.

Minister Champagne will also give a keynote speech at the Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the August 1 entry into force of the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement, which will open the door to new export and investment opportunities in both countries.
